Tips on how to easily clean your oven!
But before i show you how it's done... let's get a few important warnings out of the way!
IF YOU HAVE A GAS OVEN, MAKE SURE THE PILOT LIGHT IS OUT AND THE GAS HAS BEEN TURNED OFF BEFORE CLEANING.
ALSO, NEVER MIX AMMONIA WITH OTHER STRONG CLEANING AGENTS LIKE BLEACH OR ANY COMMERCIAL OVEN CLEANERS AND BE SURE TO HAVE
LOTS OF VENTILATION WHILE USING THE AMMONIA.
Things you will need:
-Ammonia
-Baking dish
-Pot of water
-Dish soap
-Scrubbing pad/sponge
-Cleaning gloves
Start by preheating your oven to 150 degrees F. While you're doing that, have your pot of water on your stove top boiling. Once the oven has reached 150 degrees F, turn it off. Pour 1 cup of
ammonia into a baking dish and put the dish on the top rack of your oven. Our last step is to place the pot of boiling water
onto the bottom rack of your oven and then close the door.
NOW WE WAIT!
At this point you want to give the ammonia a decent amount to work it's magic! The most convenient way is to do this right before bed and let it set over night. If you don't want to wait over night, that's completley fine!
Just let it set a few hours and then finish it off, and for those of you that clean residential homes, usually oven cleans aren't requested outside of a 'move out clean'. I suggest that you prep the oven as soon as you arrive to clean the residents home, to give the ammonia time to do it's thing, then come back to it at the end of your clean.
SO NOW THAT WE'VE PLAYED THE WAITING GAME...
It's time to empty the oven and wipe it out! Start by removing both the bowl of ammonia and pot of water. DON'T throw out the ammonia, you're going to need it in a minute, remove the oven racks also. Leave your oven door open and let it air out for about 15 mins.
SCRUB TIMEEEEE
Now, let's scrub all that nastiness away by adding 1-2 teaspoons of dish soap to that leftover dish of ammonia we didn't throw out along with a quart of WARM water. Make sure you have your cleaning gloves on and a good sturdy scrubbing sponge ready. Dip your sponge into the ammonia mixture we just made and use it to wipe out all that nasty grime
and build up! And just like that... we're done!
